Week 18 - (21 to 26 August 2017) Roof and interiors continued

We leave on Wednesday 23rd August for a couple of weeks in the UK. The plan is to do more work on the main roof (the one that is supported by wooden beams) so that it's waterproof before the usual late summer rains. The remaining roofs can wait. Then move back inside to continue work on internal insulation and brickwork, in preparation for plumbing and electrics in September. Besides, it's a lot cooler working inside... temperatures on Monday were in the mid-thirties...

We're all going to take a bit of a break next week, and pick up again in September.

Monday 21 August

First job today is to unload the truck.

We ordered 4 pallets of 'arlita'. 

Didn't realise how big they were. Now have more than needed...

Remove shuttering from 'petos' (parapets).

Lay second layer of 'corcho' then a poly cloth.

Start laying ceramic pellets and cement layer on top,

with sloping for rain channelling to cistern.

Finished with this stage on main roof.

Now can lay waterproof membrane, then another 10 cms of concrete,

then tiles, and that roof is done. 

After the waterproof membrane is laid, the roof will be filled with water 

for a few days to settle the membrane and check for leaks.

End of week - 26-27 August 2017

Back in the UK, playing with kitchen designs based on the experiments we conducted on-site.

Turquoise?

And meanwhile, back at the ranch, ladrillos continue to go up. Utility room, cloakroom and kitchen are done as far as can be. 

Trastero/aseo lintel and brickwork

Neat little 'niche' built in to cloakroom wall. Why waste the space`?

Kitchen west wall brickwork for double wall. The window and shutters will slide into the left side, and need to be mounted before the bricks can be laid on that side and the lintel built.
